The Script, Edition 10 - October 2013

Welcome to the October Edition of 'The Script'.

On first glance it would appear the Bombay's theatre calendar is not as packed as expected. This is probably due the the fact that the prolific Prithvi Theatre is closed for renovations. But, it also marks the 'lull before the storm'. Most production houses seem to be in intense rehearsal opening new shows which will premier in November and December at the Prithvi Festival, Centrestage and Thespo.

Yet, we have a much expected premiere this month with Sunil Shanbag's Carmen-inspired 'Club Desire' opening for a three day run at the NCPA Tata. Primetime Theatre Company are performing their repertoire of plays, which includes the big hits like  'Aadhe Adhure', 'Wedding Album', and the powerful social comments in '9 Parts of Desire and 'Where did I leave my Purdah'. The Going Solo International Theatre Festival will be happening at the Sophia Auditorium from the 19-21 October. Also premiering this month is a new musical for children 'Ramayana' at the Canvas Laughter Factory. And Temperance in Bandra becomes a regular venue for performances right through the month.

In fact QTP's October activities kick off with a performance of
A Peasant of El Salvador at Termperance on the 6th of October, followed by a short tour to Delhi to the Old World Theatre Festival with Khatijabai of Karmali Terrace at India Habitat Centre on the 16th. The Thespo 15 Screening takes off in earnest, where the panel will dash around the country to watch over 100 plays staged by youth theatre troupes. and of course the Great Text Reading will be on the 28th of October, where we will begin a brand theme - Young Protagonists.
