The Script, April 2015 - Edition 4

Hello Theatrefolk,

April is crackling with activity. The biggest news to share is that Court a wickedly funny film about the absurd imprisonment of a theatre worker finally releases on the 17th of April. It is a great insight into the repercussions of the freedom of speech clamp downs on the performing arts community.

In theatre, Yuki Ellias is opening a new show at Sitara Sudio called Charge on the 26th, Makrand Deshpande's Ansh celebrates 21 years with a festival of TEN plays, and some of our favourite plays are on offer, Akvarious' 'The Government Inspector', Stagesmith's ' Bombay Jazz', Primetime's '9 Parts of Desire' and Rangbaaz's 'Pitras Ka Ras'.

There are also plenty of theatre talks: Sunil Shanbag in conversation with Shanta Gokhale, Satish Alekar on the Death of Theatre, Sunil Shanbag on the History of Theatre, and UK theatre maker Daniel Bye will share excerpts of work-in-progress Going Viral. Plus registrations are open to two very special workshops, one by the Lee Strassberg Institute and the other by Australian trainer Chris Edmund.

Since schools have begun closing, children's workshops and shows are aplenty. VAIPA's opens up SMAASH as a new venues with 'Cinderella', ‘Beauty and the Beast’ & 'Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs'. Prithvi Theatre plays host to Ansh's 'Krishna Kidding' followed by 'Rangbaaz's 'James Aur Ek Giant Peach', Akvarious' 'Saraswati's Way', 'T-Pot's 'Wolf' and Working Title's 'The Boy Who Stopped Smiling'.

On  the QTP front we are using April to make 'plans and provisions'. Our new play The God of Carnage is in rehearsal and opens in mid-May, Thespo 17 planning has begun in earnest, and we begin a new Great Text season: Digital Dramas. Hope to see you all there!
