Theatre Broadcast of Frankenstein:
For the first time in India, National Theatre Live will broadcast the performance of the production Frankenstein at the NCPA. Written by Nick Dear and based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the play is directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) and is a visionary new production, with actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the grotesque being he creates.
Childlike in his innocence but monstrous in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic Gothic tale.
